WOYWW 575

Good morning all,

I am so sorry to have missed the 11th anniversary - a lot happening at the moment, I won't bore you with the details, but life is clearly not normal right now, and I seem to be struggling with it more than I thought I would.  So I'm writing this on Tuesday evening, as my crafting desk won't change between now and the morning, and this way I have a fighting chance of taking part in the best desk hop blog around.... WOYWW of course.  Click the link if you want to take part and have a poke around lots of desks from fellow crafters.

As my side desk is now my work desk, and I doubt you would be very interested in that, I only have one desk to show, so I've taken a distance shot first.

My desk tidy to the left, and a basket of stickles/3D effects , etc.  Behind that is a basket with embossing folders, and my MDF organiser for dies.  Then a pack of toppers (more about that later) 3 card layouts I am playing with for 40th/50th birthdays, some lovely new colouring pens and markers - beautiful colours and blend very nicely, my Family Tree album which is progressing nicely - back to the 1600/1700s so far with not much research from myself, just checking out other people's family trees - not always correct, I can tell you.  Random people have claimed my grandparents and my mother!!  Next to that is my Gemini.  At the top of the photo are all the shelves that I recall saying to Mr M "I will never fill" when he first built my craft room.  Not an inch of space left now!  I slimmed down the stamp folders to fit more on the shelf, and repurpose the large binders for two copies of my family tree - one for each daughter.

Below is a close up of the card layouts.  Nothing stuck down yet, just wanted to play about with colouring and die cuts.  What really frustrates me is I have no idea what to add sometimes, and the 50th card clearly needs something - probably a large "Celebrate" down the side or a stencil or some other focal  point.  I will no doubt consult pinterest to look for inspiration.  All being well, these may be finished cards by next week!

The last photo is the Toppers I mentioned earlier.  Beautiful metallic butterfly toppers that were in a Hunkydory Goody Box I bought a few months ago.  They are gorgeous, the photo doesn't do them justice .... but once again I am clueless as to what to do with them.  Ideas on a postcard please, or maybe just a comment on my blog will do.

Nothing much else to report.  We are clinging to the hope my daughter's wedding will still go ahead in October.  Our August holiday to Trinidad has been cancelled ... but I have booked the most gorgeous house in Anglesey for summer 2021 for our biennial family holiday.  Something to look forward to, which is what I need right now.  Oh, and my potting shed should arrive in 3 weeks - simple things are pleasing me, as you can see.  I also finished painting my summer house on the inside - just need to get the paint for the outside now.

Please leave a comment, so I know you stopped by.  Take care, and have a lovely week, Heather xx.

Morning Heather. Good to see you today. I trust that, despite frustrations, you are well. I hope your daughter's wedding plans and dreams will be able to go ahead - by October things will have changed, I'm sure. My own big family holiday has had to be cancelled, too. Re-booked now for next year. Does that mean I can out off the big birthday it was due to celebrate, do you think??? I have some of those gorgeous toppers. I confess to simply putting them onto a card base and adding a sentiment - CAS - that's me!
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

Morning Heather, I love the cards you've made, they are very classy. So sorry to hear you've been struggling with things, it's a real up and down time isn't it. I do hope your daughter's wedding goes ahead, things appear to be moving quite quickly now regarding easing lock down.
Hope you have a good week and your struggles are easing,

A lovely collection of cards and toppers. Pinterest is the go to for all of us when needing inspiration. We still have a holiday planned for October and will take it month by month to see if it will still go ahead. Stay safe as you create.

My goodness, I didn't expect to see you so bright and early this morning. But it warmed my heart to see you there - missed you as you know.
Lovely 40th cards but not an idea about the toppers unless you just use them as just that. Or cut bits from them? More interested in the house on Anglesey, sorry. We had a caravan there for years and years and I loved the island. So many happy memories. Whereabouts is your house? We were isn Treaddur Bay. It had its own micro climate and was so pretty,, lots of lovely walks from the caravan park too.
Hugs, Neet 11 xx

Morning Heather,
I like the idea of a family album going back to the 17th century, I was going to spend time on Ancestry during the lockdown, hasn't happened yet.
I do like those 40 and 50 cards, and I see what you mean about the 50th needing more, but can't help you.
Thanks for sharing

Glad to see you here again Heather. Sounds like you have a lot to look forward to both short and long term. Hope your daughter's wedding comes off in October. I don't have many ideas for the toppers, perhaps a glance at their website if they have an idea gallery? Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #17

G'morning Heather,

I believe all our lives has changed. I hope it will work out for you in the future. I am retired so life is nearly the same here by now. I wonder 😉 if I could get a furniture like yours, I think it is so amazing. Like a fairy tale filled with exciting thing!!

Thank you so much for sharing!

Morning Heather. You are not on your own struggling with this. Don't worry. I've never had any problems with anxiety and the like before and now find it incredible hard to go outside at all apart from for a walk or to work and back and that had me tied in knots the first time. Lockdown was much easier to deal with I found. My nephews wedding should've been next Saturday but is now next May so we are hoping to have a family BBQ to celebrate anyway, weather permitting. I hope your October one goes ahead. I will keep my fingers crossed.
Keep going and take care of yourself

Hi Heather, nice to see you back. Love the cards- do you have a stamp/stencil that looks like fireworks? That would work on your 50th card. Especially heat embossed with a sparkle powder. Those toppers are beautiful, such rich jewel colours. Have a lovely week,Stay Safe, Hugs, Shaz #13 X

Hello Heather, sorry to hear your holiday has been cancelled, I had a stressful day yesterday rebooking flights etc for our holiday in July. I would have preferred to cancel, but it is a family holiday and I didn’t want to let my children down, they are coming with their families. I found some of the Hunkydory toppers difficult to work with. They are large for toppers, so unless you just matt and layer them, I used them as a middle layer, with another topper just off to the side or I cut them up as decoupage. Happy WOYWW Angela #28

Hi Heather, it is a difficult time. We should have been going away to Annecy in France in July to stay with friends but we've had to cancel. They live in Tigne for the winter season and should be back in the UK by now but are still up in the mountains but I think they are quite enjoying that. I'm sure we'll make it another year. The cards look as though they are coming on and I'm loving the toppers. Have a lovely week and a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x19x

Apologies not necessary Heather, being able to dip in and out of this desk thing is the name of the game. Very glad to see you here today! I think actually that Lockdown has surprised most of us one way or another; if you feel the need for inane craft and small life chatter, do reach out, I’m getting to be a dab hand at sitting at my desk pretending to do something whilst catting on Messenger video! It s a bit like when you watch a film and get that dis tin the feeling that they aren’t actually playing that piano...! Twice you’ve made me LOL this morning...people claiming your grandparents is hilarious. Do they have a particularly good or aristocratic lineage that I could get in on? After all, we both craft...thats a blood connection right there isn’t it. And then well, telling your DH that you’d never fill the shelves. Man we were naive about stash back in those days. Even if it was only a month ago. I think it proves that I have never ever understood the basic maths behind volume and capacity!

Good to see you again Heather! Love the look of those cards - real potential there, and I really love the storage above your desk. Happy WOYWW. I hope you have a good week. Stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#9)

Hi Heather, Ooh I love the humor the bird adds to that one card. :) and I am grinning because, as much as I think I can do the streamlined cutting things down in my life thing I also think my crafting supplies breed in the dark at night. ( my studio is the only place that just has so much stuff) so, I am not really surprise you have filled the shelves. I think part of the joy of crafting is the collecting and curating the collection. Hope things get more they way you want them to soon. ( not sure what a "topper" is so, I have not had any thoughts about that. ~Stacy #30

Sorry to hear you are struggling a bit at the moment, Heather. I think it's going to take everyone some time to get back to normal after all that's happened this year. Your cards are lovely, and as you say, the butterfly toppers are just gorgeous, aren't they! Sorry your holiday has been cancelled, and I do hope the wedding goes ahead OK in the autumn. Surely by then things will have normalised?

Thank you for your visit and for your kind words about my knitting efforts! It's worth putting the work in to get it right. I think that black one is now finished - the bottom ribbing is quite a bit looser than before and it doesn't sit neatly into my waist but has the look of a more conventional jumper - not what I intended but it does look fine so I'm happy with it really. Also, the sleeves don't seem over-long after all, so not worth the effort of shortening them. I am most pleased with the neck. Once it's washed it will be ready to go away ready for the winter, and one small space freed up in the studio! Onwards and upwards to the next UFO on the list, and in the meantime, continuing to work on the purple circles jumper. Always plenty to do, isn't there!

I can understand Ebay not allowing the sale of offensive weapon-style knives, but kitchen knives? I think that's a bit over-cautious. After all, I've just bought a new one online with no problem at all! I am hoping something will turn up and I can sell it somewhere.

Thank you for your good wishes for my upcoming telephone appointment. I don't expect to hear anything from Exeter unless I chase them up, which I am intending to do as I don't trust them not to lose me again in their pathetic system. I am very grateful to be seeing one of the best surgeons in the business, dealing with "complex cases" (trust Shoshi to be awkward!!) but I do wish it was being done at Torbay which I think is a much better hospital. I've had great experiences with Torbay with all my various problems and can't praise them highly enough. I don't expect my operation to take place for at least a year as they must be swamped and the waiting lists must be out of control for non-urgent stuff. I hope you won't be short changed by a remote download in October instead of a regular appointment. October is ages off and surely things should be improving by then.

Happy WOYWW,

It's the simple things in life that seem to matter most at the moment isn't it. I'm late visiting desks this week! It's so good to have crafty activity to keep us busy isn't it and your craft area looks fab. This week I have been finishing off a seaside twiddler! Take care and stay safe. xx Jo
