WOYWW 589

I've made it to WOYWW ... 2 weeks on the bounce as the say, or on the run, depending which part of the country you hold from!

It's a short and sweet post - my logic being short and sweet is better than none at all.  My daughter was visiting last night to collect her wedding invites, so I couldn't prepare my post as I would have liked to have done.

Main desk is full of work clutter, as we have been banished to work from home again until a colleague gets the result of her Covid-19 test!  Side desk has a new item ... oooh exciting- it's a crochet set - inspired by Jan, Shoshi and a few other deskers I have decided to teach myself to crochet!  Just awaiting the arrival of some wool!  The chosen wedding invite is next- that was a bit faffy - Nic wanted gold lettering, and so they were all patiently foiled up and fed through the laminator!

Next up is a wallet with journals - untouched, but again all good intentions inspired by Helen & Caro.  On top of it is a slate loveheart.  I bought a few to decorate - wildlife and flowers, for my potting shed.  I embossed a squirrel, realised you couldn't see it against the grey slate, and then coloured the slate with distress oxides ... and it's still wet - from Sunday!  Ah well, I shall have to rethink that one!  The lovehearts at the front were to go on the wrap round the invites - but we both thought it looked better without.

That's it for me.  Good to be back!  Have a lovely week, and take care, Heather xx

You are putting me to shame by learning to crochet. I have done it before and made a lovely large and very fine mat with pineapples and Solomon's Knots but have not a clue now. Maybe I should rethink and check on some videos. Bet I forget by the time I go home.
Well, the sun is shining again this morning so I hope to make the best of this weather, hope you can get some time to do the same whilst 'working from home'.
Shame about the hearts not being used now, wonder if you could incorporate them into something else for the wedding.
Have a good week and hopefully we will see you next Wednesday.
Hugs, Neet 12 xx

Mammoth job of invites and gold lettering, only a Mum would go through that! How exciting! Love your intended idea for the slate hearts...I think acrylic paint may be your best option. Mr Dunnit says just sand off any bits you don’t want and wash the slate, but you’ve probably long worked that out. I showed him the hearts to prove that I’m not the only one that likes a ‘hangy thing’ (unquote) and the next thing I know, he’s getting involved...!! Good luck with the crochet, you’ll pick it up from You Tube in a jif. Then your hands will be a bit stiff from different use and then you’ll have made something lovely! I must say, it’s a slow hobby that even I quite like!

Morning Heather. Good to see you today - I was MIA last week - couldn't get my act together at all! Well done on the wedding invites - I'm sure your daughter is thrilled to bits with them.
Take care. God bless.

Og Heather I do hope you master the art of crochet, i've tried so many times but my brain always tells me I could be spending time else where sigh.. Lovely to see you putting your Motherly love into the invites makes them extra special indeed. Good luck finding a solution to the slate embossing, if in doubt I dry brush anything in gesso it usually brings the design out hee hee!!
Take care & stay super safe!! Happy WoywW Tracey #6 xx

Oh I like a hanging heart as well and the fact that it's slate makes it all the better! Hope you get the drying sorted out though, what a pain. I love the fact that your making your daughter's wedding bits and bobs, makes it so personal xx If I can learn to crochet off YouTube then anyone can! I found being able to stop and start and repeat a tricky bit really helped. I wouldn't ever crochet a garment but making stripey blankets is my happy easy tv crafting!

Good luck with the crochet - start with something easy! I can do simple stuff like scarves or blankets but patterns defeat me. Your little slate hangers will be lovely we all like a little hangy heart I think. Your mammoth wedding invite job will be so well appreciated and fab I am sure. xx Jo

Hi Heather, what a mammoth job all those invites were! Good job the laminator was up to it. Love the slate heart,Not sure whether you can get the Oxides to dry on slate, you could possibly try doing the colour/stamping onto tissue first, than attaching that over the slate? If it's torn out, the edges will vanish. White gesso over the slate first would let the colours stand out. Just a thought. Stay safe, have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 X

Hi Heather, short and sweet is good for me. I try to get round everyone but it gets hard if there's a lot to read. I used to do some very fine crochet which looks wonderful when complete but it's very time consuming. Hope things go okay for work. Love the little hearts they are so sweet. Sending you a happy woyww hug, Angela x16x

The invites look so pretty ~ She's fortunate to have you! I tried crochet once and decided to stick to paper crafts :) I hope you find a solution for your slate ~ Enjoy your week

Hope your colleague's results are negative Heather. At least you don't have to make as many wedding invitations if they are fiddly to do. Look forward to seeing your crocheting once the wool arrives. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

Do you prefer working from home?, a lot of people seem to. No travelling. My daughter is still working from home and she hopes she will be allowed to after the return to work date is decided. Could you dry the slate in a warm oven or would that make it crack? Wishing you success Angela #27

Lots going on, Heather, and I think you're pretty much love-hearted out lol! I hope all the preparations are going OK. It sounds a lot of work, the laminating to get the gold foil to work... Never tried that, but then I haven't got a laminator! Congratulations on starting to learn to crochet and I'm thrilled that I inspired you in small part! It's such a fun thing to do and it grows much more quickly than knitting, too. I'm looking forward to starting my Persian Tiles throw for our new settee, inspired by Lynne. There does seem to be a lot of mutual inspiration going on on WOYWW these days, which is great.

Thank you for your visit, and I was amused to read about your sleeping bread making machine! You should get it out and give it an airing. I'm sure if you googled the model number you could find an online manual, if you haven't got one. I do make bread the old-fashioned way sometimes but for normal bread, the machine is great.

I know what you mean about clothes having to be comfortable! That's why I love the ethnic/boho style so much because it's mega-comfy, with elasticated waists and baggy tops etc. I've made a lot of clothes in the past and would love to do more again - the last thing I made was the Tudor gown at the end of last year. Do post some pantry and garden photos soon! Always fun to see what other people have done.

Happy belated WOYWW,
