WOYWW 565 - Better late than never!

Oh dearie me.  I thought working from home would make me more organised.  How wrong can I be.  I've just worked out that in the two weeks I have been doing it, I have racked up 2 full days extra at work ... which has left me less free time to craft!  Plus spending all day in my craft room / temporary office means I don't really want to be in there in the evening or weekend.

But, being the trooper I am, and in order that I can flash my desk with the rest of you, courtesy of the lovely Julia and WOYWW, I decided to copy a you tube video about small watercolour prints for card toppers.  Oh my, the lady made it look soooooo easy!  Oh my, she was clearly a professional artist!  Firstly (in my defence) I had the wrong paper, the wrong paints and the wrong brushes.  Apart from that the rest of my equipment was fine (little jar for the water) lol.  I had pearlescent paints - "should have gone to Specsavers" springs to mind!  So without further ado ...

I didn't have any fine brushes for the stems, and by the time I realised I had some paint pens, (see the thin stem in bottom right hand pic), it was too late - the damage was done.  So I used them to play about and see how they looked with extra doodles, as the professional artist had done.

There endeth my crafty session for the week!  I have been out of the house once in the last 8 days, for an early evening stroll with Mr M.  Rush hour - without any traffic, it felt really weird!  I hope you are all keeping well, and your families too.  I'll be visiting after we have dined!!  Have a lovely week, and stay safe and well, Heather xx

Hi Heather, and well done for having a go. Laughing at your description of available supplies!I must admit I've never tried with watercolours, I think you've done a grand job. Stay safe, Hugs, Shaz#7 X

So pleased you have the necessary jar for water LOL. I like your flowers and the doodling certainly looks good on them - might try something like that myself but then I do have thin brushes. Have you any watercolour pens (Arteza? type) because maybe you could use those for the stems and get a finer line.
Was thinking of you the other day and wondering how hubby is getting on with him being a front line man. Hope he stays safe and well. You too obviously.

Hi Heather. Hey - look at you - trying something new!! Well done you. Those added lines with the fine pens look great there. Brilliant idea to put those over the top of the paint lines.
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

Well, despite everything being wrong, the outcome was right! My son says that working from home it's all too easy to rack up extra time without thinking about it. You'll have to set an alarm or something. Our lively little town is oddly quiet. I'm enjoying having time to craft and, unusually for me, am finishing off each project before starting another! Wonders will never cease!
Keep safe and well,
Hugs LLJ 4 xxx

Like you I seem to be working harder than ever working from home, and then trying to juggle Alex means that there is little time for anything else. I love your attempts at water coloured flowers - the doodles make them really fun! Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay well, With love & God Bless, Caro x (#17)

well they look ok really, (much better than anything I would have done) I agree, working from home has meant I'm turning on the work computer earlier and starting on emails.... have to get out of that habit.
Hoping this weekend I will get some more crafting done! Take care and stay safe. Helen #3

Oh Heather you should never look at creativity like that we all have our own style you've done a fab job. Amazing what we can do without the proper equipment, watercolour is not an easy thing to master. Do not stop playing & learning new things we are all so lucky to have great things to hand.
Stay safe & take very good care of you and yours Hugs Tracey #25 xx

I think your go at the technique worked just fine, very individual which is far better than a copy of someone else's art work. Walking, going to the supermarket, suddenly seems very civilised, it's so peaceful and quiet but we'll be happy when it's back to normal too. Take care and have a lovely woyww and a happy creative week, Angela x18x

I have to laugh at my self every time I break out watercolors of any medium :) and the funny part is other people seem to think they always look just fine. ( its that self critical thing I guess) because, these flowers you have done with the fine lines over the top look really neat to me too :) ~Stacy #29

A very amusing post, Heather! At least you got the right pot for the water haha!! I love what you have done. I don't think this is a Specsaver moment, quite... it's amazing what a few doodle lines can do. I watch a lot of creationsceecee on YouTube and she's a wizard at watercolour doodling.

Thank you for your visit - I agree with you about the 2nd building photo too - yes, we are both definitely weird lol!! I am a little mystified as to how you managed to buy a summer house by accident... There must be a fun story behind that cryptic statement! It's a lovely place to sit in the summer, isn't it, enjoying a nice alfresco lunch.

Yes, I think that together, most people have got all the birds in the quiz. Diana (Taylor) was stuck on No. 7, which was the one that stumped me till my hubby gave me a hint, and he was stuck on No. 11.

I had a good laugh at your remark about 'im indoors lol! Today he's mostly been 'im outdoors, working in the garden!

Stay safe and well, keep smiling, and happy WOYWW,

Thanks for coming back and explaining about the accidental summer house, Heather! Lol! Oh dear... I've done a few things like that in the past. Online shopping can have its pitfalls, can't it. Anyway, I'm glad you got yourself a bargain and it was a good summerhouse!

Oh Heather your post really had me giggling - you sound like my sort of artist! I love to dabble but now I know why I'm not succeeding - wrong paint, paper and brushes! lol. Well I love your little pictures so don't be hard on yourself. Thanks for making me smile. xxx Jo

You are a scream Heather. What a funny post. You've really made me smile this morning. See you are not the only one who finds it hard to clock off. It's taking me so long to get round the deskers this week. I only work 2 days but have ended up doing 5 days. It's hard to clock off when you only have to get up and walk out the room isn't it. We are going to have to get better at this aren't we?
Your paintings turned out really well in the end, I really like them despite only having the right equipment in the water. As long as you enjoyed doing them that's all that matters.
Have a good week and take care

I’m sorry I’m late...I cant manage my time now I have more of it. My SIL was saying the same thing only last night - she’s working much longer hours at home. Set alarms and stick to them gal, it’s not good for you! I laughed, bu like your watercolours..great idea to use the black pen to add the swirls of flowers..they are perfectly useable, and I think in this time of crisis it’s admirable that you had even a jam jar free to use! Ass it’s Saturday, I hoooe you aren’t working and can get out and blow off some work cobwebs this weekend! Stay well. Xx

Had to laugh at your list of equipment reminds me when I used to cook and I'd open the cupboard and say oh I haven't that but that will do, then my late husband would say you can make this again and I would say no can't remember what went in it!
Anyway your flowers look great. Keep safe and healthy. Ani #1

ooh I know what you mean about wrong paper and brushes, but to be honest these work well, particularly the bottom two, I love the idea of watercolour and scribbling details on top, may have to check the youtube videos out.
Thanks for visiting my desk already
