WOYWW 444

Good morning all.  Time for a weekly jaunt round the desks of Julia and other crafters in WOYWW.  I have a day off work today, for a 10 minute hospital checkup! So the plan is to spend some time designing my ideal craft space.

Not much crafting has been happening at my desk this week as we had visitors at weekend, and my craft room doubles up as the guest room! However I did leave Mr M to his new XBOX game last night and make a start on a card.  The polar bear was a free stamp with a magazine.  The magazine had a shadow added under the bear.  I tried that and it looked weird.  Months ago I would have just binned the attempt.  But, as is the case since I started snooping around your desks, I thought just play around and see what happens ... and I outlined the bear (covering the shadow) with some blue glitter glue.  My youngest  grandson will love it, and he won't mind or notice that it's not perfect.

The rest of my desk is the tools and materials used to make the card.  I used the brayer again, but ended up using the ink duster to finish it off and even out the blue. Thanks for all the tips last week, I have added some stamping card and gloss card to my shopping list, so will further experiment with the brayer when I get those.

It's like having a dozen crafting sisters teaching the young 'un, although I'm not that young anymore.  I really do appreciate the tips and advice.

The only other new item on my desk, in the bottom right corner, is two boxes of Artistry Inks, free gift with a magazine subscription.  I have not used them yet but the names of the inks are lovely!

Ok, craft space design beckons!! I have tape measure, pencil, paper pad, and an instruction from Mr M not to go too crazy as he has to build it, with help from my brother and my son in law if needed.  Now ... where do I begin??  Thanks for stopping by, I'll be snooping around later today. Heather xx

Hi Heather, if you want any brayering advice, can I recommend you look at this lady's two videos on her blog? http://mrslumpys.blogspot.co.uk/2009/03/brayering-101.html

She is wonderful. I was really struggling with getting a good finish with brayering, until I watched these and saw all the things I was doing wrong! How you hold the brayer is key, and she explains and shows the most effective way to use it.
I love that bear, in fact I've bought the same magazine for those stamps too. Claritys Artistry inks are supposed to be very easy to blend. Good luck with the re-design! Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #2 XxX

The polar bear card is really lovely, the glitter is perfect and your GS will love it. You're right about not just binning things, it was worth adjusting things. And I know what you mean about WOYWWers, they give some great advice and share ideas. It's brilliant :-D

Hi Heather, the Artistry inks are great, I use them with both a brayer and stencil brushes to add ink. Love how you sorted out the polar bear card; your grandson will love it. If you want further brayer advice then I suggest you find Barbara Gray's YouTube channel and watch some of her videos. She is a master of the brayer. Happy WOYWW Sarah #9

Yes, Your grandson will love that card! And I thought I was the only one with a gaming Hubby! (of course, since I game to, it does take from some crafting time! LOL!) Have fun designing your space! I would love the chance for a "do-over" myself! Happy WOYWW!

He wont mind at all because its a fab card! Looks lovely and the glitter definitely doesn’t look like a cover up. My experience with the shadow outlines is to use the lightest, most pale green or blue felt tip you have, and just use the brush stroke, dont go over it or doubt it! And more advice...whatever design you come up with - go crazy..they’ll do it for you anyway!

He will build it you will fill it! LOL. The polar bear is adorable and your grandson will love it! I like those ink pad color names , too! Sometimes , I like a color just because of it’s name! I think they know it that when the companies name them! Have a great week Heather! #36

Gorgeous, card Heather, you’ve done an excellent job, and those inks look soooo scrummy, popping over for a play, methinks ;-)

Good luck with the brayering - I am not good at it either - think it comes with practice. As for your bear card, I think it is very nice and will be appreciated by your grandson and anyone else who sees it. Perhaps a light grey smudge underneath was what they meant to "ground" it. Makes it look as if it is sitting on something but the glitter seems to have done that anyhow.
Hugs & Thanks for visiting me - Neet
